DescriptionThe film industry and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences present a short film detailing the work of the cinematographer. The most important tool is the camera, which moves film negative passed an opening at 24 frames a second or 90 feet a minute. The work of a cinematographer, in capturing images with light to give the illusion of movement, affects every aspect of all filmmaking from scripts to budgets to set design to costumes acting to direction. A cinematographer has a lengthy training period often as an assistant cameraman to a camera operator where he learns the range of his equipment, cameras, lenses and filters. A cinematographer must also learn the use of movement through dollies and cranes and understand the intricacies of lighting to master his craft. With light the DP molds the look of a scene from intimate close-ups to a vibrant crowd scenes or drama, comedies or thrillers.
