There are also research materials and drawings associated with unproduced titles I AM LEGEND and TRIPOLI, the music video for Tina Turner's "Goldeneye," commercials for Austin Rover, Bacardi, British Airways, Capri Sun, Diet Pepsi, Electrolux, Foot Joy, Fosters Lager, Imperial Chemical Industries, Jeep, Johnnie Walker Black Label, Levi's, Miller, New Coke, Nike, Nissan, Opal Fruits, Perugina, RCA, and 7-Up. The Production Art sub-series of the Arthur Max papers includes rough sketches as well as finished production design drawings from “Black Hawk Down” (2001) “Kingdom of Heaven” (2005), “Panic Room” (2002), “Seven” (1995), "Prometheus" (2012) and "Robin Hood" (2010). Of note are the drawings for Max's Oscar-nominated work on “Gladiator” (2000), and "American Gangster" (2007).Special Collections
The Arthur Max papers span the years 1995-2005 and encompass 6.7 linear feet. The collection includes both production files and drawings. The production files include photographs and research related to BLACK HAWK DOWN (2001) GLADIATOR (2000), KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (2005), PANIC ROOM (2002), and SEVEN (1995). - BiographyArthur Max was born in New York in 1946. He began his career working as a stage lighting designer for the music industry in the 1960s. Max received a Bachelor’s degree from New York University in 1969 before studying architecture in England and Italy. In 1980, he received a second Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Polytechnic of Central London and two years later, he received a Master’s degree from the Royal College of Art. With school behind him, Max began his career in movie production design working first on GREYSTOKE: THE LEGEND OF TARZAN, LORD OF THE APES (1984). Max’s work as a commercial production designer brought him to the attention of directors Ridley Scott and David Fincher. Since that time, he has worked with Scott on six films including GLADIATOR” (2000) and BLACK HAWK DOWN (2001) and with Fincher on SEVEN (1999) and PANIC ROOM (2002). Max has been nominated for Academy Awards for his work on GLADIATOR and AMERICAN GANGSTER (2007).
