The Academy Awards show photographs span the years 1929-2012 and encompass approximately 88 linear feet. The collection consists of photographic prints, negatives, transparencies, slides, and digital images, and generally covers any activities that occurred the day of the Academy Awards show, including the ceremony itself. For instance, one may find photographs of pre-show events, such as the assemblage of the red carpet area, backstage activities, or the post-show Board of Governors Ball. There may also be photographs of awardees accepting their awards at another location, at a later date. The material is arranged by year of achievement. Photographs for each year are organized alphabetically by either award category or other specific grouping from that day’s events. There are also proof sheets and corresponding negatives for the ceremonies for years beginning 1959 (32nd) to the present.
