Biography
Scott Rathbone Beal was an American director and actor, active from the 1910s to 1930s. He was the son of film director Frank Beal and actress Louise Lester. Beal held a variety of production jobs with the American Film Manufacturing Company and the Santa Barbara Motion Picture Company. When the Academy instituted a short-lived award category for assistant directors for the 1932-1933 awards year, Beal was one of seven assistant directors to receive an Oscar (the only year multiple awards were given). In 1935 he was nominated for his work as assistant director on IMITATION OF LIFE (1934).
