Biography
Irene (1900-1962), born Irene Lentz and also known as Irene Gibbons, was an American costume designer. Her work as a clothing designer in Los Angeles led to her career as a costume designer for films in the 1930s. At MGM in the 1940s her credits include KISMET (1944), THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE (1946), and EASTER PARADE (1948). In the 1950s she left films to design her own line of clothes. She briefly returned to film in the early 1960s. A GATHERING OF EAGLES (1962) was her final film. Irene received Oscar nominations for costume design for B. F.'S DAUGHTER (1948) and MIDNIGHT LACE (1960).
