- BiographyThe Motion Picture Research Council (MPRC) was formed in 1932, as a successor to Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Technical Bureau. The MPRC functioned under Academy bylaws; however, it was sponsored and financed by the Association of Motion Picture Producers. The MPRC was governed by a group consisting of one representative from each of the ten film studios led by an executive-producer chairman. It was reorganized in 1947 as a California nonprofit. The MPRC mandate was to analyze new ideas and inventions, adapt equipment for motion picture use, disseminate information, and promote standardization. The organization disbanded in 1959.
