- Summary
The collection consists of manuscripts, photographs, and 567 artworks. The artwork includes drawings and storyboards for the title sequences of FLOWER DRUM SONG (1961), CIRCUS WORLD (1964), and 55 DAYS IN PEKING (1963), as well as production design drawings and storyboards for THE YIN AND THE YANG OF MR. GO (1970). Also included are editorial illustrations Kingman created for the periodical Greater Amusements in the late 1960s-1970s and behind-the-scenes sketches he made on the sets of THE DESPERADOS (1969), KING RAT (1965), THE SAND PEBBLES (1966), LOST HORIZON (1973), and others. There are also sketchbooks from the MGM and Universal back lots from 1966.
- BiographyDong Kingman was a Chinese-American watercolorist born in California. He became involved in film during the 1950s and 1960s when he created the main title backgrounds on films such as FLOWER DRUM SONG (1961) and 55 DAYS IN PEKING (1963).
