- Summary
The collection contains transcripts with 35 interviewees that became the source material for Shorris's book, "Talking Pictures." The interview transcripts, which are unedited and thus considerably longer than the published versions, are often preceded by a one-page introduction written by Shorris. The transcripts are arranged alphabetically by personal name. There are transcripts for unpublished interviews with Irene Caine, Ralph Ives, and George Sidney. The cassette tape masters associated with the transcripts are housed in the Music and Recorded Sound collection. In addition, there are audio recordings for several other interviews that lack corresponding transcripts.
- BiographySylvia Shorris is an American writer based in New York and San Francisco. Her 1994 book, "Talking Pictures: With the People Who Made Them," was a collection of interviews with more than three-dozen film people who worked behind-the-scenes in Hollywood during the 1930s to 1970s. The book was a result of her lifelong love of movies. She also has collaborated with her husband, writer Earl Shorris. At one time, she was an assistant to Spyros Skouras when he served as president of 20th Century-Fox studio.
