Special Collections
The Ron LaBrecque collection spans the years 1973-1988 (bulk 1984-1987) and encompasses 3.7 linear feet. The collection consists entirely of research material for his book "Special Effects" (1988), an account of the helicopter crash during the filming of TWILIGHT ZONE—THE MOVIE (1983) and the subsequent trial. The material is predominantly trial transcripts, motions, and supporting documentation. There is also biographical information on the principal attorneys and the men charged by the state in the case, particularly director John Landis and pilot Dorcey Wingo. The material is almost entirely photocopies and includes such items as autopsy reports, transcripts of interviews with various witnesses, and the accident report filed by the National Transportation Safety Board. Of special interest are summaries of testimony before the grand jury, and the phone log for Landis's office in the days following the crash. - BiographyRon LaBrecque was a reporter for the "Providence Journal" and the "Miami Herald" and was a staff correspondent for "Newsweek." He has written for the "New York Times," "Los Angeles Magazine," and "People." His first book was "Lost Undercover: An FBI Agent's True Story" (1987), and he also co-authored "Obsessed: The Stalking of Theresa Saldana" (1994).
