The AMPTP records span the years 1940s-1970s and encompass approximately 72 linear feet. The collection contains subject files maintained by the organization on such topics as advertising, censorship, labor relations and strikes, and the influence of American films. Files include correspondence, memos, and clippings with information on the AMPP, the Hollywood Canteen, the Hollywood Coordinating Committee, the Hollywood Museum, the Hollywood Victory Committee, the Motion Picture Alliance, the Motion Picture Industry Council (MPIC), the Motion Picture Relief Fund, the Motion Picture Research Council, Movietime U.S.A., the National Association of Theater Owners (NATO), the National Catholic Office for Motion Pictures, and the Production Code Administration (PCA). - BiographyThe Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) was a trade association involved in labor relations, legislative affairs, and press and public relations for the industry. It was preceded by the Association of Motion Picture Producers (AMPP). The AMPP was organized in 1924 to negotiate labor contracts and in the mid-1930s took over contract negotiation responsibilities from the Academy. In 1982 the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers was succeeded by the similarly named Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
