The collection contains 56 appointment books maintained by or for attorney Harold Berkowitz. The daily entries contain billable hours and client names. The volumes from 1952 through 1999 are more or less uniform, with red covers, "Standard Daily Journal" or similar text embossed in gold on the front, years in gold on the spines and/or front covers; all are approximately 12.5 inches tall. Beginning in 2000, the volumes are the same, but in a smaller size, approximately 10 inches tall. There is no volume for 1992. There are also two microcassette recordings. According to the donor, one recording is of Berkowitz dictating a number of letters to his secretary; the other is her father's narration of his 1972 trip to China, recorded in that country.
- BiographyHarold D. Berkowitz was an entertainment lawyer active from the 1950s to 2000s who worked outside the studio system as an attorney, agent, producer, and negotiator. He got started in the accounting department at Paramount before he became a partner in Kaplan, Livingston, Goodwin, Berkowitz & Selvin. He later worked at Loeb & Loeb. His clients included Jack Lemmon, Donna Reed, Rin Tin Tin, Shelley Winters, and many others.
