The Manuscripts subcollection contains correspondence and some cancelled checks largely related to the Delft Theatre in Escanaba, Michigan and longtime theater manager L. J. Jacobs. There is correspondence with film exchanges, both incoming letters and copies of outgoing letters, related to booking films. The material documents the day-to-day operations of running a theater that includes many topics from injuries to the projectionist to hiring musicians. Jacobs managed the Delft Theatre from opening day in 1914. While there are gaps in the years covered by the correspondence, the material is particularly strong in the years between 1917 and 1926. - BiographyDwight Cleveland is a real-estate developer in Chicago, Illinois. He began collecting posters in 1977 while in high school, inspired by film posters in an art teacher’s classroom.
