The Automat Pictures collection spans the years 1980-2011 (bulk 2000-2011) and encompasses 54 video items. The majority of the collection consists of behind the scenes featurettes the company produced as value-added content for DVD and Blu-Ray releases distributed by several major studios, including 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Artisan Home Entertainment, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, MGM Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and Warner Home Video. The featurettes for over 35 feature films represent the company’s collaborations with filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese ("The Last Waltz" (1978), "Raging Bull" (1980), "Goodfellas" (1990)), Jonathan Demme ("The Silence of the Lambs" (1990), "Philadelphia" (1993)), David Lynch ("Blue Velvet" (1986)), Ron Howard ("Willow" (1988)), Paul Verhoeven ("RoboCop" (1987), "Total Recall" (1990), "Basic Instinct" (1992)) and Joe Dante ("The Howling" (1981)) among others. The collection also includes original era featurettes for "The Fog" (1980), "Videodrome" (1983), and "Gremlins" (1984) that were featured as bonus materials for DVD releases in the 2000s, recordings of American Cinematheque film screening tribute events for Russ Meyer and John Carpenter, and unedited interviews with New Line Cinema founder Robert Shaye and horror film director Herschell Gordon Lewis. - BiographyAutomat Pictures was established during the initial rise of the DVD format with a focus on the creation of bonus content for home video releases distributed by a number of major studios. Founder Jeffrey Schwarz and the company's team of producers have created special features and supplemental extras for over 100 DVD and Blu-Ray titles, studio electronic press kits, and original television programming for networks such as IFC, Starz, Encore, and HBO. The company released its first documentary feature SPINE TINGLER! THE WILLIAM CASTLE STORY in 2007 and would go on to produce documentary features including WRANGLER: ANATOMY OF AN ICON (2008), VITO (2011), I AM DIVINE (2013), TAB HUNTER CONFIDENTIAL (2015), and THE FABULOUS ALLAN CARR (2017). Automat also produced behind the scenes content for the 2010 Academy Awards.
