- BiographyJ. Michael Riva (1948-2012) was an American production designer. Riva, who notably was the grandson of Marlene Dietrich, received an Academy Award nomination for his work on THE COLOR PURPLE (1985). His other production design credits include the LETHAL WEAPON franchise, ORDINARY PEOPLE (1980), THE GOONIES (1985), A FEW GOOD MEN (1992), THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS (2006), and the cult film THE ADVENTURES OF BUCKAROO BANZAI (1984). He suffered a fatal stroke while working on the film DJANGO UNCHAINED (2012) in 2012.
