- Summary
The collection consists of 51 individual "magazines," each handmade, mostly staple-bound; most issues have typewritten insert sections, and are illustrated with small photographs, apparently sourced from either fan magazines or postcards. The volumes are arranged in chronological order. Issues usually contain news, Star Shots, With the Critics, and more. Aimed at fictitious fans and exhibitors, the fictional writing includes actual film stars from Pauline Garon to Richard Barthelmess.
- BiographyThe Standard Exhibiting Syndicate (S.E.S.) was a fictitious film company that produced a fantasy fan and trade paper. Edited by "L.B. Odell" and "Ted Sinermann," fictitious film executives/directors, created in the 1920s in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, by unknown presumably adolescent boys, who documented their equally fictitious production and promotional activities in a series of hand-made "trade journals," with titles such as "Standard Exhibiting Syndicate," "Independent Screen News," and "Queen's Quality Magazine."
