- BiographyDiana Serra Cary, born Peggy-Jean Montgomery, known during her motion picture acting career as Baby Peggy, was one of the three major American child stars of the Hollywood silent movie era along with Jackie Coogan and Baby Marie. In her most active and successful years, from 1921 through 1924, she made dozens of short films for Century Studios and appeared in a number of feature films for Universal and other studios. Following the cancellation of her contract in 1925, over a disagreement between producer Sol Lesser and her father, her fame and fortunes declined rapidly. An attempted revival of her career, with a handful of small roles in the mid-1930s, was unsucessful. She eventually made her living in other fields, and beginning in the 1970s established herself as a historian of early Hollywood under the name Diana Serra Cary. She is the author of a number of books, including biographies of Jackie Coogan and Shirley Temple, and a memoir, "What Ever Happened to Baby Peggy?" (1996).
