The Society of Motion Picture Still Photographers collection spans the years 1960-2007 and encompasses 52 linear feet. This growing collection consists of hundreds of prints that were originally displayed at the annual SMPSP exhibition held in the Academy’s Grand Lobby Gallery. Most of the prints are 11x14-and-larger scene and off-camera photographs. The collection also includes publicity and art portraits. Most of the material pertains to films released by major U.S. motion picture studios, though a few photographs relate to foreign films. The material is organized by photographer and arranged alphabetically by film title, and 279 film titles are represented. Highlights of the collection include: "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968), "Amadeus" (1984), "Blade Runner" (1982), "Braveheart" (1995), "Chicago" (2002), "Easy Rider" (1969), "The English Patient" (1996), "Fatal Attraction" (1987), "The Graduate" (1967), "Million Dollar Baby" (2004), "One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest" (1975), "Out of Africa" (1985), "Raging Bull" (1980), "Rain Man" (1988), "Saving Private Ryan" (1998), "Schindler’s List" (1993), and "Titanic" (1997).

The Society of Motion Picture Still Photographers (SMPSP), founded in 1995, is a professional, honorary organization created to further the art, recognition, and preservation of photography taken during the course of motion picture production. The SMPSP preserves and exhibits photographs created by its members, and provides a forum for members to discuss and exchange ideas about work as creative artists.
