- BiographyAlexander (Sandy) Mackendrick was an American-born film director and screenwriter raised in Scotland. He was most active in film from the 1940s through 1960s. MacKendrick made films for the British Ministry of Information during World War II. He was nominated for an Academy Award in the writing category for THE MAN IN THE WHITE SUIT (1952). The screenplay was co-written with his cousin, Roger MacDougall, and John Dighton.
