Special Collections
The Kent Beyda papers span the years 1973-2015 and encompass 4.6 linear feet. The collection includes production material such as scripts, storyboards, notes, schedules and continuities from, among other titles: OPENING NIGHT (1977), THIS IS SPINAL TAP (1984), TRUE IDENTITY (1991), MR. SATURDAY NIGHT (1992), THE OUT-OF-TOWNERS (1998), SCOOBY-DOO 2: MONSTERS UNLEASHED (2004), FANTASTIC FOUR (2005), GARFIELD: A TAIL OF TWO KITTIES (2006), and YOGI BEAR (2010). Additions include call sheets, maps to shooting locations, and editing notes from John Cassavetes for OPENING NIGHT. There are also a small number of subject files including clippings and miscellaneous material on Cassavetes and fliers and calendars for screenings in Los Angeles. Among the oversize material are copies of production design drawings and concepts from THE FLINTSTONES (1993) and a small number of New World Pictures publicity brochures for films such as CAGED HEAT! (1974) and ROCK ‘N’ ROLL HIGH SCHOOL (1979). - BiographyKent Beyda was born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1953. Beyda began his career in film as an assistant editor on OPENING NIGHT (1977) and ROCK ‘N’ ROLL HIGH SCHOOL (1979), and as an associate editor on THE HOWLING (1981). Since 1981, he has worked steadily as an editor in nearly every major genre. His work includes comedies, such as THIS IS SPINAL TAP (1984), FORGET PARIS (1995), and BIG MOMMA’S HOUSE (2000); horror films such as FRIGHT NIGHT (1985) and GREMLINS 2 THE NEW BATCH (1990); and family films such as THE FLINTSTONES (1994), SCOOBY-DOO (2002), and THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE (2016). Beyda is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the American Cinema Editors.
