In Pennsylvania, prior to settling in Hollywood, the brothers operated first as exhibitors and then as distributors. In 1918 the brothers opened the Warner Bros. studio on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood and began producing films. They incorporated as Warner Brothers Pictures in 1923, and absorbed Vitagraph and First National Pictures in 1925. In the early 1930s, Warner Bros. gained a reputation for its gangster dramas and for producing socially conscious films. The studio went on to produce such films as "The Maltese Falcon" (1941), "Casablanca" (1942), "A Streetcar Named Desire" (1951), "A Star Is Born" (1954), "My Fair Lady" (1964), "Blazing Saddles" (1974), "Chariots of Fire" (1981), "Unforgiven" (1992), and "Million Dollar Baby" (2004). Among the studio's franchise films are the "Police Academy" films, the National Lampoon "Vacation" movies, the first two installments in the "Lethal Weapon" series, and the "Batman" and the "Matrix" films.
