The collection consists of material related to the Screen Publicists Guild and publicity clippings, substantially regarding Hollywood labor and strikes in the 1940s. There are several issues of "The Mouth Organ," a news journal for motion picture publicity writers. There is some material related to David Horsley, including script materials, production documents, and correspondence, circa 1910s to early 1930s.
- BiographyWill T. Gentz was a film publicist. Gentz ran a concert bureau in New York and served as the press agent for Isadora Duncan, Oscar Hammerstein, Annette Kellerman. In 1915, Gentz was the director of publicity and advertising manager for the United Film Service in New York. In 1918 he left the publicity department of Fox Film Corp. to join the editorial staff of the "Dramatic Mirror." He served as a publicity representative for the Film Booking Office in the 1920s. During the 1940s he worked for the "New York Herald" and was associate editor of the "Dramatic Mirror."
Ted Taylor was a film publicist. He edited "The Mouth Organ" for the Studio Publicists Association in Hollywood in 1920. He later served as the business manager and treasurer of the Screen Publicists Guild in the 1940s. - David Horsley was a British-born film producer active from 1907 to 1919. He established the Centaur Film Company in New Jersey in 1907 with his brother, William, and Charles Gorman, an employee at Biograph. The company soon expanded to the West Coast as the Nestor Motion Picture Company, Hollywood’s first film studio.
